Wilderness speaks to us — but our minds are often so busy with chatter that we don’t listen.
If you travel in remote places for extended periods of time, gradually the “civilization cobwebs” dissipate, your mind slows down, and you listen to the Earth more acutely. It’s more than listening, it is a reciprocal communication.
Many of us don’t have the time or the physical stamina to distance ourselves from the technological world for weeks or months at a time.
Jon’s workshops are aimed at developing take-home practices that guide us toward listening to the Earth and reducing mind chatter. As the journey progresses, the air, rock, and water will teach us the obvious — to rejoice in life as it unfolds.
Jon’s awards include:
National Geographic Top Ten Adventurers of the Year, 2012
Canoe and Kayak Expedition of the Year, 2011
New York Times Front Page, 2012
Canada’s Northern Lights Awards, First Prize in Print Journalism, 2013
Jon Turk received his Ph.D. in chemistry in 1971 and wrote the first environmental science textbook in North America, but left academia to engage in extreme expeditions in remote parts of the world. Jon’s two-year kayak passage across the North Pacific Rim was named by Paddler Magazine as one of the ten greatest sea kayaking expeditions of all times. His circumnavigation of Ellesmere with Erik Boomer was nominated by National Geographic as one of the top ten adventures of 2011. Jon wrote The Raven’s Gift: A Scientist, a Shaman, and Their Remarkable Journey Through the Siberian Wilderness, which chronicles five expeditions to visit a 100 year old shaman in northeast Siberia.
The book, which is the basis of this workshop, explores our spiritual connectivity to nature and ourselves.
Fee: $135 before March 12th $150 after Match 12th Fee includes organic lunch and snacks.
