Meet Shayla Paradeis, author of “Footprint of a Heart
Thursday, September 7, 2023
7 pm
Calaway Room, Third Street Center, Carbondale

Join us to hear about the remarkable healing journeys of Shayla Paradeis. Nicknamed on the trail as “Kiddo”, Shayla ventured off the path of musical theater at age 21 and moved from Manhattan to Montana where she entered the world of hiking adventures.

Kiddo has recently published a book, Footprint of a Heart, about her journeys walking over 18,000 miles over the Appalachian Trail (2 times), the Pacific Crest Trail, The Continental Divide Trail, and the Te Araroa, which runs the length of New Zealand.

Learn the “why’s” of these journeys, some of the “how’s,” and the deep healing results that she attained through the 10 years of adventuring.

Kiddo tells a remarkable, inspiring and deeply moving story of coming to a deep heart connection with Mother Earth. Not to be missed.

About Shayla: In Footprint of a Heart, Shayla “Kiddo” Paradeis ventures off the path of musical theater and moves from Manhattan to Montana. Sculpting a life outdoors as a long-distance hiker, she walks over 18,000 miles between 4-month treks known as thru-hikes including the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest, and Continental Divide. All without a smart phone. Kiddo shares the trailside moments of five long journeys. Venturing through barren deserts, windy ridges, thick woods, estuaries, swarms of bugs, knee deep mud, and every kind of precipitation imaginable. Each step exposing the true north of a walk in the woods: The need to connect.

Admission: $10

Shayla will have books for sale at the event.
