Shayla’s Song and Story Send-Off
Tuesday, May 29th
7:00 to 8:30 pm
Round Room, Third Street Center, Carbondale

Shayla Paradeis is setting out for another Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike this summer. Come join her and Mateo Sandate in an evening of music. Shayla will perform songs from her soon-to-be-released album, On the Ground, as well as readings from her book, Footprint of a Heart. Songs and words were all inspired by her many walks with nature. Enjoy the circle of community and the transcendence of storytelling as we gather for an evening of stillness that moves.

Mateo Sandate & Shayla Paradeis

Shayla Paradeis identifies as a wild animal. Though she looks a bit out of place in civilized settings, she’s generally well-behaved and has walked across entire countries without using technology to navigate. Her hiking resume includes the Appalachian Trail 2011 and 2021, the Pacific Crest Trail 2013, the Continental Divide Trail 2015, the Walker’s Haute Route across the Alps 2017, and the Te Araroa across New Zealand 2017/2018. Above all things, she is a lover of trees, of people, and of being alive.

Mateo Sandate has played a leading roll in several local bands including Let Them Roar, Sweet Root and Beyond Beyond, he also teaches guitar with the Aspen Music Festival and School. Mateo is a much sought after solo and band musician because of his astute sensitivity and delivery of a broad genre of music.
