BEYOND the MASK with Jacy Sundlie and Robert Audet

Join Jacy and Robert for fun-filled, unique exploration and a deeply personal experience “Beyond the Mask.” Bring a partner to share the experience of mask making. Partners will take turns masking each other guided by step-by-step instructions. One mask will be completed in the morning session which will include a sharing of the experience by the “masker” and the “maskee.”
Children are welcome with an adult. Participants are required to show proof of Covid vaccinations. People will be working in pairs separated in distance to adhere to Covid Safety measures. Not appropriate for anyone with latex sensitivities.

Partners will take turns masking each other guided by step-by-step instructions from the facilitators. One mask will be completed in the morning session which will include a sharing of the experience by the “masker” and the “maskee.” A break will happen about 12 noon. You are welcome to bring lunch or go to a nearby restaurant. The second mask will be completed in the afternoon

Mask Creation is a 4-step process:

Step 1: an all-natural bees wax based lubricant is applied to the face to ensure the mask can be removed. Tissue is place over mustaches beards and eyebrows for easy removal.

Step 2: While relaxing music is playing 2 layers of plaster dipped in warm water are placed on the face.

Step 3: Complete process takes about 45 minutes during which the person being masked may relax fall asleep or use the time for meditation and or reflection

Step 4: When the process is complete the mask is removed.

Background of Beyond the Mask project:  In 1990 Jacy and business partner Robert Audet created a 501©3 non profit for developing ‘The Faces of Love: A Living Legacy’ an organization dedicated to the abolishment of social biases toward people with HIV/AIDS and Cancer through the art of making face masks.

Jacy Sundlie Bio: Jacy has two degrees in psychology. Her professional life has included being a licensed Social Worker, a Certified Transformational Life Coach, Registered Yoga Instructor, Group Facilitator, Reike Master, and a TRE Global Certification Trainer. Her passion for mask making workshops and TRE integrates her extensive education, life experiences, and work history to focus on empowering the individual’s growth in all aspects of life. Jacy uses her creativity and sense of humor to promote and teach mask making and TRE exercises. She is excited to bring the seeing oneself ‘beyond the mask’workshop back to Colorado.

Robert Audet Bio:
Robert learned and fell in love with mask making with friends in Boulder, CO in 1992. That next year, following an inspiration with housemate, Jacy Sundlie, the two created a mask making business, creating art exhibits and touching opportunities to work with people infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS or cancer leading them and their business to fundraisers in Minnesota and Wisconsin and ultimately taking the work to Flagstaff, AZ, Colorado and Virginia. Robert left the business in 1997, and Jacy continued until 2001. Robert has a 27-year career in biological and biomedical research and is currently the senior scientist at a Flagstaff biotech company. His passion for mask making rises from time to time, most recently in a men’s retreat workshop as part of a self-exploration exercise.

FEE: $75 Pre-registration with payment required.
